Cloth and Goods
Is an online store founded by Melissa Newirth, interior designer, stylist, and textile collector. Launched in the spring of 2012, the store represents Melissa’s love for collecting vintage textiles and her belief that products can be made using traditional methods and developed into modern ideas. Her aesthetic values reflect the beauty of things in their simplest forms, which are sometimes unconventional or imperfect. The name for the company represents the essence of her aspiration to “keep it simple.”
Melissa works with textiles with the utmost respect and integrity, bringing together the old and the new. Most of the vintage textiles come from humble origins – the simple, everyday lives of farmers, fishermen, and tribes people from other countries. By preserving the old and repurposing them back into life, these vintage textiles become useful, functional, and modern wares for the home. The new fabrics also come from different parts of the world. Their quality is refined and immediately recognizable.
Melissa’s idea is that anyone’s home can be a source of creativity. Employing talented artists, who share her aesthetic views, she is able to bring you both goods for the home and works of art, such as photography, charcoal drawing, pottery, paper tableware, fine weaving, and leather work. The choices are original and distinct. Her intention is that they will inspire you.
